Creating this funny cow cartoon logo was a two-part process; a fun and exciting cow mascot, which would be housed inside a vibrant and eye-catching logo design.
Cow mascot character
I began by brainstorming ideas with the client for the look and feel of the mascot character design. As the name of the brand is “Crazy Cow”, this was perfect for me.
I began working on a range of quick sketches to get a feel for the character and to convey a friendly and approachable personality that would appeal to a wide audience.
I whittled down my favourite sketches, ensuring we had a range of ideas. Playful elements were added, such as quirky spot shapes and weird tail shapes to add unique character. Other small details were also incorporated, including a bell around his neck, dungarees and even sunglasses!
The client then chose their favourite elements from each of the supplied rough sketches and they were amalgamated and refined into the final character design. This final sketch was then taken into Adobe Illustrator and final ink outlines were added.
A colour palette was then chosen to reflect the fun and playful personality of the cow mascot character, experimenting with various tones for the cow and his dungarees.

Once we had the mascot design, I turned my attention to combining it into a cohesive cartoon logo design. The client wanted to incorporate a farm theme, with the mascot character leaning over a wooden board containing the brand name in large, fun letters.
I took this idea and sketched a series of possible ideas, some with wooden boards and others with a traditional wooden farm gate, which the client instantly fell in love with and requested we continue with this theme. A large and bright sun was then placed behind the whole composition.
Once the whole design had been inked and coloured in Adobe Illustrator, some earthy colours were selected to keep with the rural theme and to contrast well against our cow mascot character.
I explored a range of possible fun typefaces that would work well in the space provided and also reflect the crazy yet friendly nature of our cow mascot character.
The outcome was an entertaining logo that not only showcased the cow mascot design but also captured the welcoming essence of the overall logo design. This resulted in a memorable and fun format that will stand out well in the market.
